One of the unforeseen benefits of knowing Russian and living
in this part of the world is that we often get to see movies 2-3 weeks before
they come out in the theaters in America. Today a movie starring Russell Crowe
(it was also directed by him) and a Ukrainian-born actress and model Olga Kurylenko called “The Water Diviner” was released in the US.
Spencer and I went to see it 3 weeks ago in the local movie theater at Keruen
Mall. Of course we saw it in Russian but it was great! We absolutely loved the movie and
would definitely recommend it though it is probably not for kids under 12 years old as there
are a few pretty graphic war scenes.

It has become one of our favorite activities here in Astana.
Usually once or twice a month (depending on if there is anything worth watching
at the moment in the theaters) Spencer and I go on a movie date, and every
other month or so we take our girls out to the movies and dinner. The kids have
really picked up Russian lately and have been enjoying these family outings.
